MEET STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE: A gaggle of young girls all named after pastry items get together for the first birthday party of Strawberry Shortcake's sister Apple Dumpling. The party supplies are in place with sweets, juice, and party hats. As the guests arrive, the party is in full swing in this animated adventure.ANASTASIA: Based on the legend of the real-life daugher of the last Russian czar, ANASTASIA combines imaginative animation and lively songs to tell the story of a princess who escapes a horrible execution and mysteriously reappears after being thought dead. When a team of swindlers, Dimitri (John Cusack) and Vladimir (Kelsey Grammer), recruit Anya (Meg Ryan), a spunky amnesiac orphan, in their plot to defraud the Dowager Empress (Angela Lansbury) with a faux Romanov heir, little do they know their carefully coached fake is the real thing. But the resurgence of the long-lost Anastasia also attracts the attention of the scary Rasputin (Christopher Lloyd), who, with his hilarious sidekick, Bartok the bat (Hank Azaria), schemes to do in the last Romanov. Though much lighter (thankfully for children) than the 1956 Anatole Litvak-directed ANASTASIA adapted from Marcelle Maurette's play, this movie is still packed with thrills, chills, and romance. This double feature contains two popular animated films sure to please the whole family. MADAGASCAR: The friendship between a New York City lion and zebra is tested when fate brings them out to the unforgiving wilderness in this computer-animated DreamWorks feature. Chris Rock does the voice of Marty the Zebra, whose longing to explore beyond his cushy Central Park Zoo boundaries is the impetus that ultimately strands him and his pals on the shores of savage Madagascar. Marty loves the new, edible scenery, but his best friend Alex the Lion (voiced by Ben Stiller) begins to starve since his diet of thick steaks has been cut off, and the rump of his friend starts to look mighty tasty. Their other friends, a hypochondriac giraffe (David Schwimmer) and a sassy hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith), try their best to think of a solution as the call of the wild slowly turns the starving Alex into Marty`s worst nightmare. Meanwhile the hilariously self-aggrandizing King of the Ocelots (Sacha Cohen) has a plan to use Marty to repel his own carnivore problem. This kid-oriented comedy stays adult-friendly every step of the way, thanks to a clever script that mixes New York humor and even some existentialism with the pratfalls and spit-takes. Jolts of comedic brilliance are supplied by some Arctic-bound escaped-con penguins and a couple of literary apes. It`s not a musical, but classic songs from the likes of Louis Armstrong and Sammy Davis, Jr., keep the montages flowing loose and sassy.SHARK TALE: In this animated film from Dreamworks, Will Smith brings hip-hop zest to the voice of Oscar, a fast-talking everyfish who rejects his life at the whale wash and longs for fortune and fame. A combination of FINDING NEMO and GOODFELLAS, the sharks here are old-school gangsters who prey on the local citizenry and hang out in the wreck of the Titanic. Martin Scorsese does the voice of Mr. Sykes, Oscar`s blowfish boss, who owes head Shark Don Lino (Robert De Niro) a lot of clams. D
